Cory Mathews of Lazy Beach conducted the brewing education with a report on fermentation. He discussed yeast starters, diacetyl rests, secondary fermentation and lagering. Yeast and bacteria were available for viewing under a microscope.
As we wolfed down William’s pulled pork and ribs, we enjoyed new homebrews from Tim Grace (IPA), Wild Bill Lehfeld (Czech premium pale lager/amber lager/dark lager), Larry Sommers (watermelon wheat/jalapeno cilantro watermelon wheat/Big Brew honey pilsner), Jeremy Van Horn (cherry cider) and Scott Wilson (azacca pale ale/bacon beer). Commercial beers were shared by Tim (Half Acre Tuna Extra Pale Ale), Joe Haug (Shiner Oktoberfest), Cory (Lazy Beach Poblano Wit/Skinny Dipper Kombucha/Summer Stout), Phil Sims (101 North Brewery Naughtyaud Imperial Stout) and Scott (Karbach Hopadillo).
Several members cooled off in William’s pool. No one impersonated Esther Williams.
